The actual library is hosted on a cloud server and is secured with apache2 + ssl + basic http authentication, which is why I'd like to find a solution to this. I got it working just fine with calibres content server, but I dont know what this authentication thing youre asking about is. Ive tried pretty much all of them, but I dont think Ill use anything but Aldiko again. I've tested this with both nginx and apache2 as the reverse proxy and get the same behavior with both. I find Aldiko is the best Android reader, both in terms of working as a reader, and working with calibre. But Moon+ Reader seems to do two odd things: 1) My covers are isolated like normal books in that the text for the first chapters are right below the cover.
